Memorabilia of the Monastery

More than 1400 years ago, Master Zhi Zhi became a monk on Tiantai Mountain, and after attaining enlightenment, he founded the Tiantai Sect, one of the eight major sects of Chinese Buddhism. Later, he returned to the place where he came out to propagate his teachings and named the mountain Tiantai Mountain.

  • In 1997 A.D., Monk Wuluo, then abbot of Taiping Temple in Hong’an, put forward the cultivation method of “becoming a Buddha by virtue” and the idea of “three Zen – Zen music, Zen tea, and Zen forests” and began to practice music Zen, founding Zen Buddhism. practicing Zen music and creating the prototype of a Zen band.
  • In the spring of 2003, Monk Wuluo, then Abbot of Taiping Temple in Hong’an, was invited by the Hong’an County People’s Government to come to Tiantai Mountain to start the construction of Tiantai Temple.
  • In 2006, the art class of Wuchang Buddhist College was established.
  • In September, 2007, the Mahamudra Hall was completed. Under the embrace of the ten great virtues, by the vice president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, the contemporary Buddhist great monk Jinghui personally for the great hall, for the Wuluo Venerable Master to preach the Dharma to send the seat, Wuluo Venerable Master honored to be the founding abbot of Tiantai Monastery, for the revitalization of the Tiantai Monastery ancestor.
    Monk Jinghui gave two poems and verses to Zen Master Wuluo Changyue, which are appended below:
    (I) Woo Lok Chang Yue Zen Master is not asking about Zen, he is happy with his life and enjoys himself.
    He always puts the Six Degrees of Paramita into practice, and pleases the people to cultivate their bodies and transform their destinies.
    (II) At the head of the ten thousand peaks, a clear breeze is different from the turbid flow.
    Knowing the meaning of the stringless zither, I can ride the boat of mercy in the vast sea of people.
  • In March 2008, the Tiantai Zen Orchestra was changed into an art troupe, which formally opened a class to cultivate Buddhist art talents and practice the concept of Zen music.
  • In June 2009, Tiantai Temple dressed up to welcome the 101-year-old monk Guangxuan Shangren.
  • In September 2009, at the International Medicine Buddha Dharma Conference held at Fujian Puzao Zen Temple, Lord Guangxuan gave five treasures, including Ruyi and Fuding Dust, to Abbot Wuluo, and personally named the Tiantai Zen Music Art Class “Guangxuan”.
  • In 2010, the “Tiantai Temple Guangxuan Art Troupe” was formally established. Mr. Guangxuan personally designed the logo for the troupe.
  • In 2013, Abbot Wule overcame many obstacles and resigned from the position of Abbot of Tiantai Monastery and all social positions, and established the Tiantai Monastery Permanent Plenary Assembly as the supreme authority, handing over all powers to the Sangha, and only responsible for practicing and spreading the Dharma, without any administrative power, thus returning to the Buddha’s great idea of the equality of all sentient beings, and passing on the Six Harmonies of Veneration. In the same year, on the cell phone handed over to the disciples to help take care of, take the lead in strictly holding the cell phone precepts, all external contacts are through the hands of the disciples of the public cell phone; coupled with the long-implemented personal accounts and red envelopes by the attendants (more than two people) co-management; all of their own under the supervision and management of the Sangha.

  • Academy was established in 2014.
  • In 2015, the all-monk Jinghui Symphony Orchestra, the Dawn Chorus, and the Xianggen Dance Troupe were established. And embarked on a global tour.
  • In 2019, in order to respond to the national initiative “One Belt, One Road”, to promote traditional Chinese culture overseas to serve world peace, and to realize the pursuit of “cultivation and service to the country on one shoulder”, Abbot Wuluo came to Madagascar, an island country in Africa, in his old age, with an old body. He came to the African island of Madagascar in his old age to build the Saijo Temple, and many young monks volunteered to follow him.
  • In February 2023, Abbot Wule led the orchestra to Mauritius to perform Zen music, which was a great success; from June to July of the same year, the orchestra toured to the United States, which was widely acclaimed and greatly promoted the country’s prestige; on October 27th of the same year, the opening of Xizu Temple and the abbot’s advancement ceremony were held, and Abbot Wule was honored with the title of Abbot of Xizu Temple.
  • In 2024, Abbot Wulok led the Zen Orchestra to actively prepare for the performance at the UNESCO Headquarters in the second half of the year and the European tour, in order to promote Chinese traditional culture and serve world peace.

Zen Orchestra Touring Experience :

  • In the first half of 2011, Zen Orchestra was invited to perform at Studio 8 in Zhengzhou.
  • May 27th, 2011, we were invited to Wuhan 17th row theater for a special performance.
  • 2012 Spring Festival was invited to Hong’an County Spring Festival Gala to perform the dance “Blessing Guanyin”.
  • In May, 2014, invited to Wuxi Lingshan, performed under the Lingshan Buddha.
    On May 23rd and 24th, 2015, invited to perform three consecutive shows in Wuhan Qintai Grand Theater, launching the global tour.
  • September 14, 2015, invited to perform in the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Auditorium in the string category.
  • November 11, 2015, invited to participate in the 7th Beijing Traditional Music Festival.
  • On December 28, 2015, once again came to Shenzhen Nanshan Poly Theatre to participate in the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the SZFCC and a special performance of Tiantai Zen Music.
  • On December 28, 2015, came to Shenzhen Nanshan Poly Theater again to participate in the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the SZFB and the special performance of Tiantai Zen Music.
  • On December 31, 2015, he was invited to perform in the finale of the “World Peace Prayer Concert – Chinese Classical Symphony Concert” held at Shenzhen Poly Theatre to ring in the New Year.
  • On January 23rd and 24th, 2016, he was invited to perform at the Sunbeam Theatre in Hong Kong for two consecutive performances of the Hong Kong leg of his world tour.
  • On May 27, 2016, at the Fifth Hongan Tiantai Temple Zen Music Cultural Festival held at the Hongan Grand Theatre, the group was awarded the Guinness World Record for “World’s Largest All-Monk Zen Music Troupe”.
  • From July 26 to 31, 2016, the group was invited to participate in the 13th China International Choral Festival at the Great Hall of the People, and gave a special Zen music performance in Beijing.
  • From August 19 to 21, 2016, invited to participate in the Third Jinan International Choral Festival.
  • From August 24 to September 1, 2016, two special performances in Tianjin and one each in Hohhot and Baotou.
  • October 15, 2016, invited to participate in the opening ceremony of the 11th World Zen Tea Culture Exchange Conference, as a representative of the Chinese side to offer a tea culture performance demonstration.
  • In May 2017, the premiere of the original symphonic overture “Su Wu’s Reflections” was performed at the Sixth Hong’an Tiantai Temple Zen Culture and Art Festival.
  • In August 2017, invited to participate in the 2017 Huanglong Music Season International Choral Art Festival, and won the Double Gold Medal of the Choral Art Festival.
  • On October 24, 2017, it went to Sri Lanka to participate in the Asia-Pacific International Choral Festival, winning two gold and one silver, which is the team with the highest number of medals among all participating Chinese teams. It also performed in Sri Lanka in the string category and dance category.
  • October 28, 2017, invited to participate in the “Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Zhao Puchu” held at Yanqi Lake International Conference Center in Beijing, performed and won awards at the event.
  • From January 9 to 14, 2018, he was invited to Shenzhen to hold three special performances.
  • In February 2018, he went on a pilgrimage to the holy places of Buddhism in India and Nepal, during which he was invited to hold a special performance in Bodhgaya, the holy place of Buddha’s enlightenment.
  • From April to September 2019, in response to the national initiative “One Belt, One Road”, and in order to promote Chinese traditional culture to the world and serve world peace, the Zen Orchestra moved to Madagascar. The Zen Orchestra was able to develop a strong fighting spirit in an incredibly difficult environment. Cultivate the body with music, and build up the body with loyalty and filial piety.
  • On May 1, 2022, the Zen Orchestra made its public debut at the Madagascar International Convention and Exhibition Center.
  • On February 3, 2023, the Zen Orchestra was invited to perform in Mauritius
  • From June 10 to July 18, 2023, the Zen Ensemble was invited to tour Los Angeles and other cities in the U.S., during which it held several performances and participated in the Idaho International Choral Festival.
  • From September to November 2024, the Zen Orchestra will be invited by UNESCO to Paris, France to perform the large-scale symphony “Home on Earth”, followed by a European tour.
